Yapay Zeka : geçmişi ve geleceği

I have been involved in the search for Artificial Intelligence (AI) for fifty years; these fifty years cover my entire professional life and the whole life of this field. It seemed like a good idea to have an “insider” tell the story from the beginning of this search to the present. I have three types of readers in mind: The first is a community of readers who are interested in scientific topics and want to learn more about AI. The second group consists of those working in technical or vocational fields. I promise to both groups of readers that the book will be free of complex mathematical formulas and computer jargon, to provide ample graphics, and to do my best to clearly explain how AI programs and techniques work. The third readership is made up of AI researchers, students, and teachers. Knowing what AI has tried, what has worked and what hasn't, as well as accessing a solid source of historical or other information will be beneficial for this segment. Knowing the history of this field is important for those working in this field. First of all, many ideas that were once discovered and then abandoned can find a chance to live with the increase in technological possibilities.

The book in your hand tells the history of AI in a more or less chronological order. It may not include some actors and events, but I hope my story can reasonably reflect the main ideas, conflicts, practices, and limitations of AI. I focused on the ideas and how they came to life rather than the personalities involved in this work. In my opinion, in order to understand the history of AI, it is important to at least have a general grasp of how AI programs actually work.

What is the primary goal of AI, that big "reward" we're looking for? In my opinion, Artificial Intelligence is human-made tools that do most of the things humans can do, especially things that require "intelligence". It seems that AI will take place in many areas of our lives in the future. I believe that one day AI researchers will be able to build machines that will make anyone believe they are conscious. While imagining the times when this dream comes true, we can't help but worry about some questions: When those days come, will we be able to establish a social order that will make it impossible for these machines to fight us and each other? Have we even defined what it means for machines to simply serve socially accepted goals? These and similar concerns are borne by both computer scientists and humanists. In the future, writers will no doubt continue to tell the story of this adventure. One day, one of these writers will be able to write that, approximately two thousand and five hundred years after Aristotle's thoughts, we have tools that "either at our disposal or do their job in case of need".
