Code of Ethics

Turkish Librarians Association Code of Ethics

 

1. They defend the right of access to information, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, other international conventions and the TKD Declaration on Freedom of Thought, for all members of society and strive to fulfill its requirements.

2. They oppose censorship of intellectual and artistic works and defend freedom of thought.

3. They treat users equally without any discrimination.

4. They make active efforts in the development and implementation of professional policies and standards.

5. They provide accurate and sufficient information in a timely manner and perform their duties in a way that adds value to the profession.

6. Respect and protect copyrights.

7. Guarantee the confidentiality of users' research, borrowed and/or utilized information sources, and do not share their personal information with anyone except when legally required.

8. They do not engage in discourses and behaviors that are not based on objective data and that may damage the reputation of professional staff, a professional group in general or an information center with unfair slander.

9. They do not gain personal benefit while fulfilling their professional duties and responsibilities.

10. Pay attention to professional cooperation and solidarity.

11. They are sensitive about their professional development, continuously improve themselves in this respect and reflect this to their services.

12. They act fairly and honestly in their professional and managerial relations.

* The principles adopted on 02.04.2010 are the revised version of the Professional Ethical Principles prepared and put into effect in 1996.

 

IFLA Code of Ethics for Librarians and other Information Workers

 

This Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct is offered as a series of ethical propositions for the guidance of individual librarians as well as other information workers, and for the consideration of Library and Information Associations when creating or revising their own codes.
