In the 21st century business world, under the necessity of businesses to make a difference in an intensely competitive environment and rapidly changing working conditions, especially talented employees are increasingly personalizing their expectations for work in line with both their efforts to protect their personal space and their career goals. Being aware of this, human resources specialists may make some promises that may be valuable for the candidate in addition to standardized, written contracts in order to bring talented employees -star players- to the organization during recruitment processes. In academic literature, these promises or promises based on mutual expectations and trust in the employer-employee relationship are called psychological contracts. In this book you are holding in your hands, I wanted to find an answer to the question “Do promises fly?” in the context of psychological contracts, based on my work experiences in both the private sector and academic life, and my observations of my friends' work problems and dilemmas. In the first part of the book, the emergence of the psychological contract in the academic literature, its theoretical foundations, types and parties are discussed. In the second part, the findings of the research conducted on a small sample are shared and it is investigated which promises make a difference or are more valuable for groups. In the third part, based on the principle of “one size doesn't fit all!”, information on the recently developing personalized employment contracts (i-deals) in HRM practices abroad and their outcomes for employees and businesses are presented.
