This book is planned as an introductory textbook on nuclear reactor physics. It is intended to be a stand-alone resource for use by university students in mechanical, electrical and other engineering disciplines who have no background in nuclear power, and is designed to fit into the university nuclear engineering curriculum as an introduction to reactor theory. It is also intended to benefit engineers from a variety of disciplines whose professional responsibilities require familiarity with nuclear reactor physics. Why was this book needed when there are many books on the subject already in print? The popular books that are in print are well written. The basics of the subject were already explained at the time of their publication and they are still valid today. But in my opinion, an introduction to reactor physics for today's university students and engineers should be based on a review of older works, focusing on the major topics and the characteristics of modern power reactors.
