Adolescence or Hello Sadness” The first transformation of human life is birth, the transition from fetus to infancy; the second is adolescence, the transition from childhood to adulthood. The final transformation is death, the transition from being alive to being lifeless. The beginning of the end is birth, but it is in adolescence that the beginning of the end is realized. Therefore, with the contrast and strangeness of being an end-beginning, adolescence, as a second birth, will be a process that prepares the individual for his/her unique death and enables him/her to accept it. Written in the 90s by Talat Parman, the founding president of the Istanbul Psychoanalytic Association and one of the few people who institutionalized psychoanalysis in Turkey, these writings accompany the long and difficult journey of the adolescent searching for “normal” or “truth” in a spectrum ranging from sexuality to love, family relationships to body pathologies.
