 On November 10, 1942, British Ambassador Loraine described Atatürk's understanding of peace as follows: “His policy was one of peace, friendship and reconciliation. His foreign policy was always a guarantee against war, provided that other neighboring countries accepted the new Turkish State and respected its borders...” Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's peacemaking efforts were also appreciated by Venizelos, who even nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize on January 12, 1934, saying: “This act of rapprochement, which shows that even peoples with the deepest differences can come closer again when they are filled with a sincere desire for peace, has been beneficial both for the two countries and for the maintenance of peace in the Near East. The person who made this invaluable contribution to the establishment of peace is, of course, Mustafa Kemal Pasha, President of the Republic of Turkey...” and nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. Andrew Mango said, “Above all, he is a founder, the greatest nation builder of modern times..
