Dear Istinye Family,

Turkey's first digital engraving library is now available.

The digital engravings and maps of the 19th century and earlier periods collected over the years have been made available in Turkish and English as a visual database. The originals of the engravings were scanned and 10,000 works in 27 different categories were digitized.

In the content of Digital Engraving Library;

  • Almost all of the images published in the British newspapers The Illustrated London News and The Graphic about the Crimean War and the 93 War, as well as engravings of Anatolian cities, especially Istanbul, and ancient cities, including seven churches, portraits of prominent people, portraits of the clothes and costumes of the time, and engravings depicting daily life, related to the Ottoman Empire and Turkey,
  • Engravings of the works of William Shakespeare, the most important name in world literature, grouped by play, and the complete drawings of William Hogarth, the father of caricature,
  • The engravings found in the Torah and the Gospels printed in the 19th century and before, respectively, as translated into Turkish and in the holy books,
  • Engravings of many important cities such as Paris, London and Vienna and their buildings in terms of architecture and urban planning,
  • Engravings of 19th century world fashions, especially French and English fashions, and engravings of 19th century and earlier costume history by country and chronologically,
  • Engravings of music and dance, as well as engravings of portraits of famous composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Haydn and many others from the 19th century and earlier,
  • A large visualization of the Victorian sheet music booklet and its covers, one of the most important cornerstones of music history,
  • Engravings on the history of world theater and ballet, with an emphasis on British theater and ballet,
  • Maps related to world states and geography, especially related to our own geography
  • You can find portraits of famous artists, scientists and statesmen, animal and botanical engravings and various engravings on many other subjects.
