Dear İstinye Family,
İstinye University Press is thrilled to present readers with a special work that brings together the abstract world of mathematics with the warmth of our culture and daily life: “KALKÜLÜSTAN: A Mathematical Journey Through Stories” is now on the shelves!
Written by Prof. Dr. Tofigh Allahviranloo and edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pınar Çakır Hatır, this book transforms the challenging and abstract concepts of calculus into an intimate narrative set against the backdrop of Turkey’s streets, kitchens, and unique architectural skylines.
About the Book
On this journey guided by two curious friends, Pınar and Efe, complex topics such as integrals, surfaces, and vector fields are explored step by step and in extremely accessible language, all while enjoying tea and fresh simit.
Readers will encounter calculus not only in the classroom or through formulas, but also;
- In the shadows of Mimar Sinan’s mosques,
- Under the arches of the Bosphorus bridges,
- They meet in heartfelt conversations that span from Istanbul’s fish sandwiches to Gaziantep’s baklava, and from Kayseri’s mantı to İzmir’s boyoz.
KALKÜLÜSTAN, which maintains scientific rigor while offering a tone as inviting and familiar as a warm meal shared at the end of a long day, will help you see mathematics from a completely different perspective.
📍 Check it out at our library! The book is now available on the “New Arrivals” shelf at the ISU Library. We invite all our students, faculty, and researchers to check out the book.
